The redevelopment of a 1959 MDT block. The school's vision was for the creation of an anticipated learning studio environment placing emphasis upon problem solving, design and manufacturing processes, integrating technology and the arts, and nourishing the team approach.
“The design will be dramatic and different, a practical representation of workplace technology's place in people's lives in the early 21st century, and a symbolic representation of the leading edge of education pushing into the future. The aim is for a building that does not look like a school or institution but which has the appearance of a modern workplace.”
SCHOOL VISION STATEMENT
“We all wanted a bright, inspirational modern workplace and this is the completed reality of our dream .. it is a class that is not in a classroom, not in a school .. we can lose ourselves here .. the idea was to inspire students to create their own individual designs by surrounding them with a uniquely designed and structured workplace. The possibilities and opportunities this building now offers are remarkable and we will all enjoy seeing the results for years to come.”

“Working within a restricted budget, Rees has found a way to introduce light and joy into an undistinguished (1950s) building .. giving life to a building that another architect may have chosen to demolish. Pedagogically and architecturally, this building breaks new ground for school buildings.”
